Poverty Line

Poverty Line (New York, NY)

2015

site-specific intervention, custom barricade tape, photographic documentation

Poverty Line is a site-specific intervention commissioned for Ideas City NYC 2015. The site-specific intervention installed barricade tape reading "Poverty Line Do Not Cross" throughout the rapidly gentrifying area of the Bowery in New York City. Utilizing the familiar language of police barricade tape reading "Police Line Do Not Cross", this intervention illuminates and demarcates the invisible spaces where the poverty line in the Bowery neighborhood exists.
With about 1.7 million New Yorkers living below the poverty line, the Poverty Line project makes this reality visible.
