"Dis-cover (El Yunque Rainforest, Río Grande)"
photographic documentation of a site-specific intervention, New York City, NY
archival digital print mounted on sintra
30"x 40"
2011

Project Description

The "Dis-cover" project was a site-specific intervention in the New
York City Subway System which appropriated a Puerto Rico Tourism
Company's advertising campaign that depicted an idyllic island
paradise. Utilizing black and white decals the interventions restored
four moments of colonial intervention in the island's history from the
landing of Columbus to the occupation of Vieques by the U.S. military.

Applied in guerilla fashion, the decals restore a layer of history hidden
underneath the beautiful advertisement asking you to "Discover why Puerto Rico does it better".

The series exists as four archival photographic documentations
mounted on sintra.
