The "Dis-cover" project was a series of site-specific interventions in
the New York City Subway System which appropriated a Puerto Rico
Tourism Company's advertising campaign that depicted an idyllic
island paradise and seductive language through a series of posters.
Utilizing black and white decals which were applied to the posters,
these interventions restored four moments of colonial intervention in
the island's history from the landing of Christopher Columbus in 1493
to the occupation of the island Vieques by the U.S. military from 1941
to 2003.
The decals restore a layer of history suppresed beneath the beautiful
advertisements asking you to "Discover why Puerto Rico does it
better".
The series exists as four archival photographic documentations
mounted on sintra.
