The Betsy Ross Trilogy, Part 3, "In Advance of a Broken Symbol"
all of the thread from an American flag, adhesive, wooden spool
2" x 3.5" x 2"
2006-07

Project Description

The Betsy Ross Trilogy follows the deconstructive transformation of the American flag from it's current state back to it's alleged creator, Betsy Ross in 1776, through metaphorical time travel.

The trilogy is comprised of video, photography, and object.

Part 3
"In Advance of a Broken Symbol" is the final piece in the Betsy Ross Trilogy. Each individual piece of thread from part 2 "Skeleton" was glued end to end metaphorically reassembling the single thread that Betsy Ross would have used to sew the first American flag in 1776.
